Greg Trompas
August 26, 1949 to December 12, 2011

GREG TROMPAS,  succumbed to cancer December 12, 2011 at the age of 62 .

A native San Diegan, he graduated from Crawford High School and attended UCLA and the University of Houston on golf scholarships. He was a prominent junior golfer in the 1960s and won the State Amateur golf championship in 1971. He played golf professionally before earning his U.S. Coast Guard Merchant's license in 1977.

For the next 25 years, he operated fishing boats out of Point Loma.

He owned and ran the FIESTA (1979-1987) and the POINT LOMA (1988-1992).

Greg spent the last ten years driving boats for the San Diego Bay Pilots while competing in senior amateur golf.
Greg is survived by his loving wife Amanda, their daughter Mia Elizabeth, his sons Christopher and Gregory, brother Aly, sister Mia, and many longtime, loyal friends. He is predeceased by parents Alex and Olga Trompas.

Greg lived what many men only dream of - a life of golf, fishing, and love from family and friends. He will be dearly missed.

The color photo above was taken in December 2010 at Greg's house in Point Loma. It was his last "big fish" -- a 250 pound Blue Fin tuna.
