DON ABREGO
March 3, 1923 to March 1, 2011

Don Abrego was the weigh-master at the club for many years. He was an important part of our crew on the Watercloset from when we met in the mid 70' until we sold the final on in the early 90's. He was also a frequent Baja travel companion and house guest at our Rancho Deluxe. Thought the news of his passing would be of interest to some of the older members. He, Skelly Wilbur and Bob Newton pioneered catching a marlin solo back in the 70's. A feat the many of us late comers admired and subsequently achieved and were invited into their very select club. MATTHEW J.  MONISE
November 7, 1965 to August 17, 2010

Matthew J. Monise adored and treasured son of Toni and Matt Monise died at his home August 17th from Melanoma. He was 44. Born in San Diego he spent his life in Point Loma. A graduate of Pt. Loma High, he went on to earn a business degree from UCSD. At which time he joined his father at Oil Filter Service Co and after his father's death stayed on as the CFO. Matthew was a true lover of the ocean and loved sharing his knowledge and experiences. He loved surfing Sunset Cliffs and deep sea fishing with his family and friends on his beloved boat Legacy. He especially enjoyed his yearly trips to Catalina where he met up with the Lahr family. His Wednesday nights were spent playing softball at the Cabrillo Rec league with many of his good friends on The Gamblers. His week wouldn't be complete without Thursday night card game with his life-long friends Mark Stevenson, Mike Stutz, Rick Ludwig, and Greg Ghio whose support these last few weeks will never be forgotten. He is survived by and will be heartfully missed by his mother Toni, sister Tracy Pompeo, brother-in-law Russell and nephews Nico and John Russell, niece Danielle, godson Antone Lahr and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is predeceased by his father Matthew C. Monise Jr. A service was held at sea on Saturday, August 28th, and a memorial service was held at St. Agnes Church on September 4, 2010.

Jim Bingham
The late great Jim Bingham. He passed away a few months back   He taught his boys well but his greatest gift to them was sharing his love and admiration of the ocean.   He was one of the pioneers of our modern day halibut fishing. He will be dearly missed by all.
James Harvey Bingham - January 23, 1933 - October 22, 2008 HARVEY  James H. Bingham, 75, passed away while surrounded by his family at his home on Wednesday, October 22, 2008. He was preceded in death by Yvonne, his loving wife of 52 years, and his eldest son, Harvey. He is survived by his children Patricia (Ochendus-zko), Michael, James, Bryon, Christopher, Shawn, and Robert (Hickman), their spouses, and his eighteen grandchildren. Jim was born on January 23, 1933, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He graduated from Excelsior High School in Minnetonka, Minn. in 1951, where he was class president. He soon joined the U.S. Navy and retired as a Chief Petty Officer in 1970. He thereafter worked for COMNAVAIRPAC, managing programs in ground support and weaponry at Naval Air Station North Island until he retired in 1990. Jim was an avid and accomplished fisherman and long term boat owner. He lived for fishing outings with his sons off the coasts of San Diego, Mexico, and Alaska. He coached baseball at Tecolote Little League for many years, and taught his children and their friends to water-ski in Mission Bay.

Lois Ibey - Passed away November 18, 2007

Glen H. Munkelt Jr. - June 19, 1918-July 26, 2007 He was born in San Diego and was an artist. Survivors include his wife, Cecelia Munkelt; sons, Stephen Munkelt and Dana Munkelt of San Diego; and sister, Jeanette Hoover of San Clemente.  Glen was a member of the Marlin Club since July 23, 1965.
