Thelma "Teddy" R. Schlieder
December 4, 1922 to January 23, 2007

 

Teddy, Mom, Nana passed away with her husband at her side Tuesday morning at 4:20.

Teddy was born in Philadelphia, PA. She grew up in Philadelphia and Princeton, NJ. She attended nursing school at The Protestant Episcopal Hospital of Nursing in Philadelphia and became an RN.

Teddy was married on January 22, 1945 to Carl Edward Schlieder, Jr.

Teddy and Carl, with their four children, moved to California in 1956 and lived in El Cajon until 1975, a brief transfer to Georgia until 1978, then lived aboard their boat the Gadget III at Southwestern Yacht Club until 1984, Oceanside until 2003 and then back to El Cajon.

When her children were growing up in El Cajon, Teddy was involved in many activities with her children such as the Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, Little League, 4H, and PTA at Pepper Drive School, El Capitan HS, and Santana HS.

Teddy was a member of the Clippers Mariners group at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Lemon Grove for many years.

Teddy's hobbies included knitting, sewing and deep-sea fishing. Teddy was a life member of Southwestern Yacht Club and was active in the Southwestern Yacht Club Anglers. She won many angling awards, including the Ladies Club Champion, fishing aboard the Gadget III with her husband Carl. She also volunteered at the Marlin Club of San Diego for many years. Teddy went along on many trips aboard the boat with her family, especially with her grandchildren, watching over them as they fished and swam and played off of San Clemente, Catalina and the Coronado Islands.

Teddy will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She always had a kind word for everyone and was there when her family and friends needed a helping hand.

Teddy is survived by her husband Carl, her four children, Carol Reese of Westminster, Robert Schlieder of El Cajon, David Schlieder of Lakeside and Linda Carr of Winder, GA., nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Memorial Service will be held Friday, February 2nd at 2:00 PM at El Cajon Mortuary, 684 S. Mollison Avenue, El Cajon. In lieu of flowers contributions to the American Diabetes Foundation and/or Sharp Hospice Care.
