Burt King

Burt "thumbs" King, past president of the Marlin Club,
passed over to a better ocean last Wednesday.Burt and Polly had three boats called
"Topajo," all named for their three children Toni,(Mrs. Russ Asbury), Pat and
Joe. Burt was president in '62, which lives in history as the "King Year"
because is was the shortest and worst season, 59 fish, that the Club has ever seen. Burt
and Polly taught a lot of people about Marlin fishing and were always willing to "put
out the dope" when they found fish. I think their best day was 5 fish.
Burt was also a long time member and one of the founders of Southwestern Yacht Club
Anglers. He also served as president of that organization and many times on the board of
both clubs. Burt and Polly were charter members of Mission Bay Marlin Club where Polly
served as the first secretary, helping J.Floyd Andrews (PSA) in establishing a weight
station in that bay.
Burt will join Polly in "Marlin Alley", on the chocolate drop next Saturday
morning. Maybe "Der Elf" will catch Toni a fish on the way back.
