From the Helm It’s October and fall (as we know it in Southern California) is here. Our marlin count has reached 153 of which 99 have been released. I have noted that many people are slowing down in their fishing fervor for marlin. Let me remind you that in previous years the fish seem to school up and move into the San Diego area for a couple of weeks on October, then they leave the country. When this happens, if you are in the right area, you end up catching several fish. In years past, fishing with Mike Alsip on the Love of Mike, he always planned to fish October hard, and usually put more fish on the boat in October that any other month. My suggestion is not to quit too soon. DON’T FORGET THE SMALL BOAT TOURNAMENT THIS WEEKEND. Boat length has to be 26 feet or less. Don Wroncy has a good tournament lined up with prizes for both marlin and tuna. A word to the wise, weigh in all your fish. One year Bob James won the yellowtail division with a four-pound yellowtail because no one else weighed in any fish. He didn’t feel guilty taking a nice Calcutta reel home for a four-pound yellowtail. Also if you have the time, ask Wayne Slahor about the big yellowtail the he caught in the Make a Wish Tournament. Its time to end, BUT don’t Forget the Small Boat Tournament. Good Fishing |
