The Marlin Club of San Diego Monthly Newsletter

From the Bilge
By Wayne Slahor, Club President

The Holidays are rapidly approaching and it’s that special time of year – it’s time for our members to determine who will be elected to the Board of Directors. This is your chance to vote for the people that you feel will make a difference.  More details of each nominee are included in this newsletter. The ballets are being prepared and will be mailed soon.

We have recently laid the memorial plaque for Don Blackman. It is set in front of a tree that was donated by Yasuda Nursery.  If you haven’t been by the club recently, now is a good time to stop by.

The members who have released a bill fish this year will be eligible for a special raffle – a Tiaga 30 Reel donated by Doug Kern of Fisherman’s Landing. For each fish released, the angler will have one ticket entered into the raffle. The drawing will be held at the Awards Dinner.

We are putting together a pictorial year book – if you have any photos you would like to contribute, please send them to the club - attention Penny.

Board of Directors Meeting Notes

·         Hoist – Harold Weimer has taken it apart and has a new part being fabricated and hopes to have it back together in the very near future.  Will need to install a new motor.

·         We are reviewing the awards regarding how much they are costing us.

·         The Kid’s Fishing Program update – we have decided to wait until springtime to charter a boat.

·         The Blackman Memorial Plaque – Thank you Bob Woodard Jr. – it has been set.

·         Grounds Upkeep – discussed how to keep the grounds looking good. Some suggestions were having a gardening service once a month, plant a low maintenance ice plant, also need to re-do the irrigation system.

·         Club promotions - brainstormed many ideas to better promote the club. Discussions will continue.

·         Scale – San Diego Scale was out to check it and we are going to write procedures and certify all users to the proper use of the scale.

·         Reviewed and selected the Board of Directors Nominees

·         Going out for bid on replacing the carpet in the club – we are looking for a commercial grade that can take the abuse we give it.
