THANKS TO KEN YASUDA, and his nursery, for planting a tree as a memorial for Don Blackman. The tree is located on our bank near the flagpole. Also donated and planted by Ken & crew were 30+ flowering plants. The club plans to provide a memorial plaque to place in front of the tree.

MARCH & APRIL…. means a change in our weather, fishing tackle shows, and, of course, the Club Clean Up (April 17th). We have quite a few projects, so give us a call and sign up to help. Projects can be done at your convenience or on the clean up day. We just need to know who is going to do what. Hope to see you there! For our newer members, this is a good way to get involved and meet some fellow club members.

 ANNUAL MEETING – April 6, 2004
To be held at the Silvergate Yacht Club, 7:00 pm
Michael Farrior will be our guest speaker – talking about the history of and the future of fishing. Mike is the historian for the Avalon Tuna Club as well as an IGFA representative.
It’s important that you attend. Why?  We have several by-law changes to discuss and approve including 1) allow a 40 lb albacore to move a member into the active status 2) having a separate category for full time professionally skipped boats and 3) giving the Broad of Directors the authority to change the annual meeting date as needed.  Your attendance is necessary.  We would also like to review our discussions with the Port district and the possibility of having to increase our dues.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING
Discussion included 1) how to improve attendance at annual meetings 2) committees were established for upcoming events 3) sealing the parking lot and currently looking for bids 4) Open House/Day At The Docks activities 4) considering a parking lot/tackle sale in conjunction with the South Western Yacht Club 5) as previously mentioned, by-law changes 6) providing a better junior’s trophy and 7) review current trophies and how much we are currently paying for them.

AWARDS DINNER was held February 7, 2004 at Shelter Point Hotel in the Voyager Room. We had a      great turn out and the food was very yummy! Steve Williams (pictured at right) did the honors of emceeing again this year – great job Steve! Many of our club members received awards (for a complete listing AWARDS.  After dinner and the awards ceremony a raffle was held with lots of great prizes.  Special thanks to Lil and Penny for making the arrangements and helping at this event.

The Ken-Dan Now Has A Website
By Marty Morris

There is no real substitute for getting out there and, not only going fishing, but actually catching fish. At times, one such substitute might be watching someone else catching fish. Unfortunately, during the “off season,” the chance for doing either are not that great – unless, of course, one wants to travel to warmer climates.

Thus, we often find some degree of pleasure in simply reading about someone else’s exploits. If anyone is so inclined we offer you the following:

There has been a Ken-Dan fishing these local waters for the past 33 years (a 32’ Luhrs for 3 years and the current 38’ Egg Harbor for 30). During that time the owners, Marty and Carolyn Morris, have grown older and the family (Kenneth, Daniel & Melody) has simply grown up. There are lots of photos, albums, and memories that have accumulated over the years. Now that we have arrived in the Digital Era we (with the help of Dennis Albert) have put together a website to not only help us to record many of those events, but to allow us to share these activities with any interested parties.  It is still a work in progress, one that is constantly being added to, but we are getting there.

No attempt is being made to glorify any of us, but we have found that such a record is a great way of watching one’s family grown, mature, and achieve.  We have enjoyed the years spent out on the ocean (contributing to what well may have been the “good old days”) and are glad to be able to share these events with you.

And so – if you are so inclined – check out:   www.ken-dan.com
