MARLIN, MARLIN, MARLIN – We’ve got MARLIN!

The official club count is at 30 fish, nine releases and 21 weighed in.  Its beginning to look like the curse of David (old club joke) may be lifting. At first the fish were pretty scattered, but by the end of August the place to be was at the “138” spot. I heard that on the 30th there was a 20 fish day out there.  The fishing in this area slowed down on the 31st and on the 1st of Sept. The Legend picked up a fish in that area on the 2nd of Sept.

There has been much talk about he albacore counts vs. the marlin count. Some have said that when we have a really good albacore season, the marlin counts are way down. I asked Dennis Albert, our Webmaster, to come up with some data – see chart below.  The data doesn’t really show any correlation between good albacore years vs. marlin count. The sad part is that it shows an overall downward trend of the marlin counts – are the longliners to blame? It’s hard to say, but maybe this year we can push that trend on an upswing.

Remember – the marlin is a valuable resource, release them if you can.
