Club Improvements
We finally finished the installation of the gate on our main dock. Thanks to Bob Woodard Jr., Bill Sevill, Steve Pitts, and David Reed for their efforts.

The gate was installed for the following reasons:

Dock Rules
All members are entitled to one key – the key is FREE; however, extras and replacements will cost $3.00.

The gate will be open whenever the club is open.
The gate is currently not locked but will be effective the 3rd week of December.

We will have the keys available at the Awards Dinner and at our Membership Meeting. The club is currently closed for the winter; however, you may call and leave a message and arrangements can be made.

If you know of someone that would be willing to donate a push button combo lock this would eliminate the need for keys.

Winter Hours

Currently the club is closed for the winter season. We still have paperwork and other duties to perform and we will try to do these on Saturdays as much as possible.

You can still weigh in a fish by calling any of the board of directors or myself. As soon as the fishing picks up again we will modify the hours to match the activities.

Trophy Hunt Update
By Bob Woodard Jr.

Ho Ho Ho, Trophy Hunt…and what a hunt it was!

Even though the marlin fishing was slow might we remember the rest? Big Albacore, plentiful Bluefin (sometimes), Big Yellowtail and a long and productive Halibut season!

As the Holidays are upon us take a few minutes to reflect on the good times we had in the season past. Call a fishing buddy and make some big plans for 2003 or just remember the good times had, just don’t lose touch.

Best Wishes and Mele Kalikimaka

Charles Been
Joined March 2, 1983 Boat Name: Green Bean      Became Active: August 4, 1983

I have a few goals that I would like to work on should I get elected. They are: plan and execute activities that would increase membership, increase visibility and support the survival of the club thus showing the Port District that we are a worthwhile organization for the area; increase club activities and get more members involved; and support anglers in keeping or releasing their catches.

Erich Borgstede
Joined August 3, 2001    Boat Name: Pamela B       Became Active: September 6, 2002

My foremost reason for wanting to serve on the board for the Marlin Club is because of the generosity of present club members helping me and other new members achieve success with our quest for Marlin. The fellowship of other fisher-people, and the longstanding tradition and good name of the club energizes me to participate in the continuance of that success. I look forward to maintaining the level of excellence the club has enjoyed for many years, and also to do my part however I’m needed.

Bob James
Joined April 27, 1978    Boat Name: Tres Mas     Became Active: October 14, 1979

One of my goals is to keep the club an institution of the San Diego waterfront in spite of the Harbor Commissioners. Our club needs new members, a strong management, planning for future capital improvement and above all, fish. I will pray for the latter and work for the former. I was weaned on Marlin fishing and am a practicing attorney in Fallbrook. I’m active in community affairs such as rotary and the chamber. I am also a retired reserve marine judge advocate. I feel my experience can help the club. I need your vote.

Andy Norton
Joined April 21, 2002    Boat Name: n/a    Became Active:   August 26, 2002

If I’m elected Director, I would actively pursue new members. I would also aid in the organization of future Marlin Club events such as membership drives and fishing tournaments. A goal I would like to see the club pursue would be to actively go out into the community to promote fishing for kids as an alternative to other not so desirable activities. Thank you for your consideration.

Gene Schwartz
Joined September 1, 1986 Boat Name: OPB    Became Active: October 5, 1986

As a board member I would work towards increasing membership and participation in our club. I would like to initiate and promote year-round tournaments and club activities as well as increasing club visibility in the community.

Harold Weimer
Joined January 6, 1993 Boat Name: Sidekick    Became Active: July 5, 1996

I would actively coordinate activities that will help increase participation in our tournaments and other club activities. I would also work towards insuring that we meet our club goals and most importantly, have a club for the future.
