Club members Michael Berry and Harold Weimer bring in the first fish to the Marlin Club on August 16th and to top it off, they go back the next day to the same area and captured the first release flag of the year. Way to go Mike & Harold!!!.

Turn in all weight slips from other clubs within 30 days for trophy qualifications.

Participation has been excellent this year! SDMC has weighed in a variety of fish from Corbina to Marlin with several World Record claims. You’ll never know if you don’t go! See you here.


August 17th - 2002 Jack Bohannon Junior’s Tournament Results

There were 20 junior anglers participating in this event that fished on 11 boats.

WINNERS ARE:

Largest Tuna – Tyler Moore with a 39 lb 10 oz Bluefin
Largest Yellowtail – Jack Wroncy with a 10 lb 4 oz
Largest Killer B’s – Travis Blumer with a 5 lb 14 oz Barracuda
Girls Championship Trophy for the largest fish – Lindsey Blackman with a 4 lb 9 oz Barracuda
Boys Championship Trophy for the largest fish – Tyler Moore with a 39 lb 10 Bluefin

Although a Marlin was briefly hooked by Antone Lahr, there were no qualifiers for the award for the biggest Marlin or for the biggest Dorado.

August 24th - Couple’s Tournament Results

Eleven couples participated in this year’s tournament. A great time was had at the kick off potluck dinner the night before. Unfortunately, no fish were taken – better luck next year.

And the winner is: Marty Morris with a 23 lb Yellowtail Way to go Marty!


August 31st & Sept. 1st – Labor Day Tournament Results
Sept. 2nd – Labor Day Dinner

Greg Tinney on the "Horale" caught a 177 lb Marlin on 50lb tackle, 1½ miles north of S. Clemente winning the Largest Marlin by Man trophy. No fish were taken in the women or juniors categories. Participants enjoy a delicious ribeye beef and albacore dinner prepared by Sam Minervini and Bob Bossler. Rumor has it that Sam is going to start a catering service. Recipe Corner

Secret Marinade
By Chef No-Tell

Excellent for all Tunas and Marlin!

1 cup mild, good-quality olive oil
6-7 Tbls fresh lemon juice
1/4 teas salt
1/8 teas freshly ground pepper
2 bay leaves, crumbled
1/2 onion, grated in a blender
4 garlic cloves, chopped in a blender
1/4 cup sundried tomatoes
Combine all ingredients well. Marinate 3-4 pounds of fish fillets for an hour at room temperature or for several hours in the refrigerator.
Makes approx. 1 ½ cups (enough for 3-4 pounds fish)
