From the Bilge

MARLIN, MARLIN EVERYWHERE -- Except at the Club

Marlin have been seen from the 9 mile bank all the way up to the 14 mile bank, as well as the Albacore grounds. None have been pulled in yet by a Marlin Club member. There was one taken by a Mission Bay Marlin Club member. I know there have been many members out there trying – so let’s keep up the effort and fire off that cannon.

Past Presidents’ predictions have not proven correct and no one wins the grand prize.

PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER NEEDED

We are still in need of a photographer to be a back up for Barbara and share the photographic duties of the Marlin Club. Please contact the Marlin Club or Bernard Jaffe at 619-299-5255.

CLUB HOURS

Wednesday, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, 2-6 p.m.

Once the 1st Marlin is brought in, the Club will be open 7 days/week from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m.

To weigh fish in after 6:00 p.m., prior arrangements MUST be made either by VHF radio (channel 78) or by calling the club at 619-222-6877. No fish will be weighed in after 10:00 p.m.

***NEWS FLASH***

DAVE VERDUGO & CAROLYN ARE NOW OFFICIALLY ENGAGED

Carolyn reeled Dave in shortly after reeling in her 1st Marlin at the East Cape. We’re not sure which one put up a tougher fight. The wedding is planned for next June with a honeymoon back at the East Cape. Maybe we should make this a club trip?

Special ‘THANKS’ to Bob Woodard Sr. for donating a refrigerator to the Club.

The 2002 yearbook is at the printers and should be ready by August 12th. Call the club before stopping by to pick up your copy.

DOCK SPACE

It’s that time of the year and our docks are seeing more and more member boats showing up.

We want everyone to have the opportunity to use our docks so a few simple rules need to be followed:

Bob Woodard Jr. making new friends.

Bob broke down at the Coronado Islands and had a long boat ride back – hopefully nothing major. He tried signing up the towboat driver in the Marlin Club, perhaps he’s planning another trip. Bob & Bill Lemaster did manage to weigh in a couple nice yellowtail for the August tournament.

Trophy Hunt - July 28, 2002

By Bob Woodard Jr.

Weigh to go! As the weigh slips come storming in and the dust settles, the weights to beat are as follows:

Albacore          -    Marty Morris         -    30.1 lbs
Bluefin Tuna    -   Bob Woodard Sr.   -    21.0 lbs
Yellowtail          -   Andy Norton        -   27.4 lbs
Halibut          -   J.B. Bingham        -   35.6 lbs
White Seabass  -   Billy Miyagawa Jr.   -   55.0 lbs

Still open are Marlin and Broadbill categories, as well as Dorado, which have just moved into the 390o area.

Be sure to pull the big ones on your way in from the tuna grounds!

Many THANKS to ALL of our subscribers. We appreciate your support!!!

We ask a simple question

And that is all we wish;

Are fishermen all liars?

Or do only liars fish?
