MAY - 2002

CLUB REPORT: The Club Cleanup went well with many thanks to those in attendance including: President and 1st Lady WAYNE & CHARLOTTE SLAHOR, CHRIS & ANTONE LAHR, DICK MEDVE, JEFF STILES, BOB WOODARD, JR., and PENNY OLFERS (with friends Frank Jenkins and Joe Field).

Open House held in conjunction with Day at the Docks was well attended by both visitors and members. Quite a few T-shirts were sold. The over-all winner of the Kids’ (not to be confused with the Club Juniors’) fishing tournament was MICHAEL BERRY but he was disqualified when he failed to produce his birth certificate. Official final results of the fierce competition (featuring NO mileage limit and NO tournament control)

8 & under: Lorenzo Gomez with a 2 lb 8 oz spotted bass.
9-12: Michelle Miller with a1.41 lb buttermouth perch.
13-16: No catch.
Shark Division: 30 lb bat ray caught by Taylor Bocoman, age 6

Division winners all received $20 gift certificates from Fisherman’s Landing (thanks to DOUG KERN) and a goody bag from Everingham Bros. Bait Co., who also supplied the bait. And thanks to ED WALDMAN who picked up the bait.

If you are not aware postage is going up to $.37 this summer. That means that so does over-head. Thus, we would like to see more members elect to receive the Gaffline by E-mail. If you haven’t "signed up" already give it a try by sending your request to: Slahorw@aol.com.

The Club’s First Lady CHARLOTTE SLAHOR is looking for Volunteers to join the Hospitality Committee. The 1st goal is to find ways to increase participation at our club activities. It would be helpful to hear from past committee members as to what activities took place (and to possibly join the committee) as well as to hear from all club members as to what they would like to see this year. In addition to more Marlin, that is. Contact Charlotte at Slahorw@aol.com or 760-747-6239.

Attention: North County Members – There is a new Tackle Shop in Escondido offering the club a 10% discount to members. It is the Bait & Tackle Store, 1651 East Valley Parkway, Escondido, 760-747-6239. Be sure to mention the Marlin Club.

And Steve Crouch, CEO of Tag & Brag Sportfishing Apparel is sponsoring a No Kill Billfish Tournament at the East Cape, June 22nd – 26th. Entry fee is $250 per angler. Contact Steve at 1-800-355-6441 or visit his website: www.tagandbrag.com. Further information is available at the Club.

COMING EVENTS: No Marlin yet, but it is still "Tournament Time." If you marked your calendar last month – check it out. If not – get your applications at the Club for the following:

NEW MEMBERS: Recently joining the "team" was DOUG MEDVE, another member of the crew (along with dad: DICK MEDVE) on "Capt. Hook." Also signing up is BRUCE HOBSON (858-483-2344) who immediately made his presence known with the donation of a custom-made glass end table featuring a welded Marlin. He has promised to donate two Marlin/Sailfish wall hangings for future tournaments. We have also added to the roster: ANDRE’ CHAVEZ (858-268-8811) and ANDY NORTON (619-276-3973)
