Invitational Light Tackle Tournament and Club Challenge

Tournament Information and Rules

EARLY BIRD SIGN UP

Paid entrants prior to August 15th will be entered into a special raffle.  The wining boat will have their tournament angler fees refunded –  fish for FREE. (side bet not included)

  • IGFA / Marlin Club rules shall apply.
  • Cost is $100 per angler – minimum 2 per team, maximum of 4 per team
  • Team Boats from Fishing Clubs or Organizations are encouraged to join. 

A club boat is defined as 1 or more boats with 2 or more anglers representing any club or organization. There will be a team plaque awarded to the winning team boat.

  • Large Boat / Small Boat Divisions – Boats 30’ and under will be in the small boat category. Boats over 30’ will be in the large boat category.
  • Lines in / Lines out – Saturday (9/6) lines in 6:00am  - lines out 6:00 pm
  • Lines in / Lines out – Sunday (9/7) lines in 6:00 am – lines out 3:00pm
  • Weigh in by 5:30 pm Sept 7th – Weigh slips or release slips MUST be in by 5:30 pm as well as the cameras.
  • Tackle - 30 lb maximum for Marlin and 50 lb maximum for Swordfish
  • Scoring - 1 point per pound for boated fish and 130 points for each released fish
  • Fishing Area – 100 miles from #1 buoy
  • Tournament Channel is 65 – in the event that the reception on channel 65 is not at it’s best, an area boat will be designated as Tournament Control.
  • Tournament Control  - All hook-ups MUST be reported to Tournament Control. Before leadering fish, intent to release or boat the fish MUST be reported to Tournament Control with latitude and longitude/grid area. Contact Tournament Control at the time of release or boating of the fish. The release form MUST be a Marlin Club form and filled out immediately after the release and signed by all on board.  Also, a photograph MUST be taken with the provided camera.
  • Tie – Ties will be broken based on the time that the hook up is called in.
  • Release and Tagging of all Marlin is encouraged.

Friday, 9/5 7:00 pm  at The Marlin Club Non-mandatory but highly recommended

Calcutta Side Bet

 $100 per boat Highest total points at end of tournament wins. (80% payout)

AWARDS

  • GRAND PRIZE for Biggest Fish – Marlin or Swordfish – wins a Shimano Tiagra 20 2-speed Reel
  • Small Boat Division, 1st Place - boat/team with highest point total – 1 trolling rod per angler, max. 4
  • Small Boat Division, 2nd Place – boat/team with second highest point total – 1 bait rod per angler, max. 4
  • Large Boat Division, 1st Place – boat/team with highest point total – 1 trolling rod per angler, max. 4
  • Large Boat Division, 2nd Place – boat/team with second highest point total – 1 bait rod per angler, max. 4
  • Team Plaque – to the club team with the highest accumulated points
  • Unclaimed awards will be in an anglers’ raffle.

The Marlin Club of San Diego reserves the right to cancel this tournament at any time due to inadequate participation or other good cause.
