| I went to Mag Bay with Jim Wachtler on his 52' Hatteras Wild Thing. I
was the lucky guy that got to fight this 454 # Blue Marlin. We hooked up
on the high spot called the Double 23 in 83 degree water. The fight went
on for two and a half hours. We chased the fish about seven and a half
miles. It came back to hit a pink 3.5 pink Zukers after slicing through a
two hundred and fifty pound leader that had a green and black jig.
As you know it takes a very well trained crew to land a fish this size.
Bob Johnson (Buena Vida) our Pitman was 1st gaff, Daren Becker was 2nd
Gaff. Ron Bowers (Salt Fever) filmed the fight from the tower. Jim
Wachtler was superb at the helm. Please do not forget to mention the guys
that helped make this happen. It was a team catch. What a stand up fight!
The reel was a Penn 30T with eighty pound test. The film is on DVD if you
would like to see it. |
