2001 OFFSHORE INVITATIONAL UPDATE

History made at the 2nd annual San Diego Offshore Invitational

Here are the results of the Marlin Club of San Diego's 2nd annual San Diego Offshore Invitational:
15 teams competed for over $40,000 in cash and prizes last Friday and Saturday. A tournament record 12 Striped Marlin were successfully tagged and released by 7 boats.

1st place: Captain Hook II/4 releases/$18,845 in cash and prizes
2nd place: C-Bandit /3 releases/$2,925
3rd place: Team Riviera /1 release /$1,950

The Captain Hook II took top honors including the First fish of the tournament (a Northstar 951XD Chart Plotter form Phantom Marine), the daily jackpots for both days and also received the Tag and Brag conservation award for taking a DNA sample from a fish. They were also extended an invitation to participate in the ROLEX/IGFA offshore championship in March of 2002.

Qualifying releases (and prizes) were also recorded by:

The Carlota/Custom trolling rod and Zuker 10 pack
The Class-Sea-D-III/custom trolling rod by Fisherman's Landing
The Hot Pursuit/Custom Rod/Kodak Advantix Camera
The Retozo/Underwater video Camera from Phantom Marine for the Last fish of the tournament!

The true history maker however, was the successful deployment of 5 pop-up satellite tags in local marlin, which is to my knowledge a worldwide tournament record.

A special thanks goes out to the teams on
The C-Bandit
The Captain Hook II
The Legend
The Hot Pursuit
The Retozo

for helping with deployment!
Pop-up dates are set for March 2, 2002 (1)
and Jan 4, 2002 (4)

Keep your fingers crossed!
