TOURNAMENT Q&A

Q:What's the payout?
The value of 1st thru 4th places depends on the number of entries received and whether or not a Swordfish is caught. The percentage return on base entry fees is 65%, daily jackpots 85%. (This is the highest percentage return of ANY cash award tournament plus we're giving 5% to charity!) If 60 teams enter, 1st place could be worth over $17,600 and the daily jackpots even more!

Q:I want to fish the tournament but I don't have my whole team together. What do I do?
Just fill out the entry form as best you can and return with your entry fees. When you get the rest of your team together, let us know who they are and we'll finish the paperwork.

Q:Can I make a deposit?
The base entry fee of $1290 is required to reserve your spot in the tournament. You do not have to immediately pay the optional daily. $190 of the entry fee is non-refundable (that's for the discounted MARLIN CLUB and IGFA memberships worth $300, which you keep). The rest is fully refundable until August 20. After that date, no refunds will be given unless the tournament is "overbooked".

Q:When does the optional daily have to be paid?
We would greatly appreciate payment no later than August 20. We will accept cashiers checks and money orders up until the Captain's meeting. However, to avoid long processing delays after the Captain's meeting, please enter the optional jackpots early.

Q:Do I have to have 5 people on my boat?
No, but you should have at least 4 so that you can effectively tag, release and photograph your catch. You cannot have more than 5 people on your boat.

Q:What's the deal with the inclusive MARLIN CLUB membership?
Just fill out the specially marked MARLIN CLUB brochure (transferable to ANY team member) and send it in with your entry fees. If any additional team members wish to become MARLIN CLUB members, just fill out the specially marked tournament flyer and return with the appropriate discounted fees at your convenience. The sooner you send this in, the sooner you and your teammates become eligible for this season's MARLIN CLUB trophies and awards.

Q:What if I want my inclusive membership to be a family membership?
To upgrade your inclusive membership to a family membership just include an additional $75 with your entry fees ($1365). A family membership includes your spouse and all juniors 16 and under.

Q:I'm already a MARLIN CLUB member, do I get a discount?
If you are already a member, or your entire team already consists of MARLIN CLUB members, you can assign the inclusive membership to someone else or assign it to your or your teammates' 2001 dues. Remember, it is to your advantage to have as many MARLIN CLUB members on board as possible to win the ITOC tiebreaker. With 3 or more MARLIN CLUB members on board, you become eligible for an additional $1500 towards entry fees in the 2001 ITOC.

Q:What is the ITOC, anyway?
The ROLEX/IGFA Invitational Tournament of Champions is a new tournament series of IGFA approved tournaments where winning teams from qualifying tournaments around the world compete in the ROLEX/IGFA Offshore Championship in Kona, Hawaii. The winning team will receive beautiful ROLEX watches and trophies. Other winners will receive trophies and merchandise awards. The 2001 tournament will be held on March 24-31. This is IGFA's second year in sponsoring a tournament series, and there is no doubt that it will be an exciting event that will attract international interest. So far, over 40 tournaments from 21 countries and 10 U.S. states have been named as qualifying tournaments. The San Diego Offshore Invitational is THE ONLY qualifying event in California!

Q:I have some more questions, who do I call?
You can call the tournament director, Rich Hamilton, at (619)225-0932 work or (619)276-5050 home or E-mail him at AHAMLET2@aol.com. To reach the MARLIN CLUB office dial (619)222-8677.
